About the theme: Happy accidents

What if mistakes were not failures, but the beginning of something extraordinary?

We often strive for perfection, following plans, searching for answers, and trying to stay in control. But what happens when things don’t go as expected? A wrong turn leads to an unexpected discovery. A failed experiment sparks a new idea. A moment of chance opens the door to something no one could have imagined.

And yet, we are taught to avoid mistakes, to fear failure, and to see the unexpected as a setback rather than an opportunity.

What if we looked at it differently?

Innovation rarely follows a straight line. Some of the most remarkable breakthroughs emerge from curiosity, unexpected encounters, and the courage to explore what doesn’t go according to plan. It is often by questioning assumptions, embracing uncertainty, and remaining open to new possibilities that we discover something entirely different.

Happy Accident by TEDxTUM celebrates the unexpected and the possibilities hidden within it. Through thought-provoking talks and meaningful conversations, we explore how mistakes, chance, and curiosity can challenge what we know, reshape how we think, and spark ideas that change the world.

Because sometimes, the most extraordinary discoveries begin with something going wrong.

What if your next mistake was your next big idea?
